Sports

At CCS, sport is a central part of school life. We believe participation in sport builds resilience, leadership, teamwork, and a sense of community. Every student is encouraged to take part, whether through Physical Education, Wellbeing programmes, or extracurricular teams.

We are proud of our tradition across a wide range of sports and our strong record of participation and achievement in regional and Leinster competitions.

Hurling

Hurling is one of our strongest sports in CCS, and we have a proud history in Leinster Colleges competitions.

We compete in Roinn A and B in Leinster Colleges Hurling.

Teams include 1st Year, 2nd Year, Junior, and Senior, with two teams at Junior level and an U-18 Community Schools team.

Our players regularly progress to represent their counties at underage level, and past students have gone on to play at intercounty standard.

Athletics

Athletics offers students the chance to test themselves individually and as part of a team.

Students from 1st to 3rd Year compete at all levels.

We participate in cross-country and track-and-field events, with strong representation at local and Leinster championships.

Events include sprints, middle-distance running, relays, long jump, shot put, and more.

Handball

Handball is a unique and traditional sport that has a special place in CCS.

We field both boys’ and girls’ teams across all year groups.

Students compete in local and provincial competitions, with opportunities to progress to national level.

Handball helps students develop fitness, coordination, and concentration, while celebrating one of Ireland’s oldest games.

Our Sporting Values

Wellbeing: Every student is encouraged to participate in physical activity, whether competitively or recreationally, as part of their personal growth and wellbeing.

High Expectations: We support our athletes to reach their full potential, from beginners to elite performers.

Community: Sport at CCS is inclusive. We don’t pick exclusive panels — if you are prepared to train, you will get the chance to play.
